Douglas Corrigan, an American stunt pilot born in Galveston, Texas, gained notoriety for an unplanned transatlantic flight to Ireland on July 17, 1938. He flew from Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, New York, to Ireland, though his flight plan was filed to return to Long Beach. He was nicknamed "Wrong Way Corrigan" thereafter.
