National Tape Measure Day

On July 14, 1868, a patent was filed by Alvin J. Fellows of New Haven, Connecticut, making the lives of carpenters, electricians, seamstresses and countless other tradesmen and craftsmen easier. A tape measure is a flexible measuring tool that is commonly used to measure the length, width, or height of various objects. It consists of a ribbon of cloth, plastic, or metal that can be extended from a coiled form to measure distances. Tape measures typically have measurements marked in both inches and centimeters, and may also include other useful information such as fractions and metric conversions. They are often used in construction, sewing, and other trades where accurate measurements are important. Tape measures come in various lengths, with the most common length being 25 feet (7.6 meters).
