The United States Congress has designated March 25 of each year as National Medal of Honor Day, a day dedicated to Medal of Honor recipients. The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States. The first Medals of Honor were presented to six of the surviving members of Andrews's Raiders on March 25, 1863.
