National Loyalty Day is observed on May 1 in the United States. It is a day set aside to recognize the American spirit of loyalty and the sacrifices that so many have made for our Nation. The first Loyalty Day was celebrated on May 1st, 1921, in response to the post-World War I Red Scare. It was intended as a way to counter the influence of socialist and communist movements in the United States and to promote patriotism and loyalty to the country. Today, National Loyalty Day is recognized as a day to celebrate the principles of freedom and democracy that our country was founded upon. It is also a day to honor the sacrifices of the men and women who have served in our armed forces to defend these principles. On National Loyalty Day, many communities hold parades, ceremonies, and other events to celebrate our country and its values. People may also choose to display the American flag or participate in other patriotic activities.
