National Hot Dog Month

Sausage makers from Vienna, Austria and Frankfurt, Germany are credited with bringing their unique dishes to the United States. But according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, it was Americans who popularized the hot dog on a bun and it was local cities and regions that created their own personal "dogs" featuring unique toppings. Because the hot dog is such a vibrant part of Americana, Hot Dog Month is celebrated in the same month that America celebrates her independence.
