National Find a Rainbow Day

A rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon that occurs when sunlight is refracted, or bent, as it passes through water droplets in the air. Rainbows are typically seen as a multicolored circular arc in the sky, with the colors appearing in the following order from the innermost to the outermost part of the arc: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. The colors of a rainbow are created by the different wavelengths of light being refracted at slightly different angles as they pass through the water droplets in the air. When the light hits the back of the water droplets and reflects back to the observer, it creates the arc of colors that we see in the sky. Rainbows are usually seen when there is a combination of rain and sunshine, with the observer standing in a position where the sun is behind them and the rain is in front of them. However, they can also be seen in other situations where there are water droplets in the air, such as in mist or spray.
