National Different Colored Eyes Day is observed annually on July 12 to celebrate people who have a condition called Heterochromia. Heterochromia is a condition characterized by a difference in coloration of the eyes, where one eye is a different color from the other. It can also refer to the presence of multiple colors within the same eye. This condition can be inherited genetically, or it can be caused by injury, disease, or certain medications. There are three main types of heterochromia: complete heterochromia, where one eye is a completely different color from the other; sectoral heterochromia, where there are patches of a different color within the iris of one or both eyes; and central heterochromia, where the iris has a different color around the pupil compared to the rest of the iris. While heterochromia is often a harmless condition, it can sometimes be a symptom of an underlying health problem. In some cases, it can be associated with certain genetic syndromes, eye diseases, or neurological disorders. If heterochromia is accompanied by other symptoms such as eye pain or vision changes, it is important to seek medical attention.
