Cognac is a type of brandy that is produced in the Cognac region of France. It is made from specific varieties of white grapes, primarily Ugni Blanc, but also Folle Blanche and Colombard, which are grown in the surrounding vineyards. The wine is then double-distilled in copper pot stills and aged in French oak barrels for at least two years, although many high-quality Cognacs are aged for much longer. Cognac is characterized by its complex flavor profile, which includes notes of fruit, vanilla, oak, and spice, as well as its smooth texture and warming finish. It is often enjoyed as a digestif, served in a snifter glass and sipped slowly to savor its unique taste and aroma.
