National Chocolate Chip Day

Chocolate chips are small chunks of chocolate that are often used in baking cookies, brownies, and other sweet treats. They are typically made from sweetened chocolate that has been tempered and molded into small, flat shapes, although some variations may also contain other ingredients such as nuts, toffee bits, or mint flavoring. Chocolate chips were invented in 1937 by Ruth Graves Wakefield, who was the owner of the Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. She was experimenting with different types of cookies and decided to add chopped-up pieces of Nestle chocolate to her recipe, hoping that they would melt and create a chocolate cookie. Instead, the chocolate stayed in small, solid pieces, and the resulting cookie became an instant hit. Today, chocolate chips are widely available in grocery stores and are a staple ingredient in many baking recipes. They come in different varieties, such as milk chocolate, dark chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, and white chocolate, and can also be found in different shapes, such as mini chips, jumbo chips, and chunks.
